The Camino

An ancient pilgrimage route and modern day spiritual experience

About "The Way"

The Camino de Santiago, or The Way of St. James, is a thousand year-old pilgrimage route that stretches across Spain.

Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims, hikers, and tourists alike have made their way through the Spanish countryside to the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, to pay their respects to the shrine of Saint James The Greater.

But the walk is not a religious experience for everyone; many pilgrims use their time on the walk to meditate and temporarily escape from the modern world.

Europeans have traveled the route for centuries, and each year, more North Americans are making the journey themselves.

The walk can take 4 to 6 weeks, depending on your route and individual itinerary, and a bit of preparation is recommended to make the most of your pilgrimage.

That's where we come in.  We've been there, and can help you prepare for the unknown.  Our philosophy does not involve a cookie-cutter approach...everyone's Camino is and should be different.  Instead, we can serve as a resource to help ensure that your experience is the best it can be.

Resources

Peregrinity offers a multitude of resources that can help you prepare for your Camino.  Our offerings can help you make educated decisions and reduce your "fear of the unknown".  We are available for telephone, Skype and in-person consultations for residents of the Portland Metro Area at a rate of $25 per hour.  We can even start the journey with you as your Camino Companion.  To speak with someone about how we can help, please visit our Contact page.

Camino Consulting Services

Education:
Because there are so many information sources about The Camino online and in print, the educational phase can be overwhelming. We have learned a lot throughout our pilgrimage experiences, and can help you get up to speed in a simpler way.

Preparation:
Preparing for the Camino can be an arduous task, but it doesn't have to be. Learn from our "do differently" list, and prepare yourself mentally and physically as best as you can.

Recommendation:
While each pilgrimage is different, we can help with suggestions on accommodations and other resources. Word of mouth is very important when it comes to finding the "hidden jewels" on The Camino. We don't believe in a cookie-cutter approach, but can share our insight and experiences to help you decide for yourself.

Camino Companion Service

Would you feel more comfortable making the journey with someone? Many people feel that way, but are not interested in a "Camino Tour Group" experience. Our Camino Companion offering is the perfect solution.  We will help you launch your pilgrimage, without feeling like you are on a guided tour.

The first days are often the hardest, and can make or break a pilgrim.  With our Camino Companion service, we walk with you for the first four stages until you're comfortable on your own.  You are then free to define your own pilgrimage, as it should be.  Should you need help along the way, we'll be there.

As a Camino Companion participant, you will embark with up to 7 other pilgrims from St. Jean Pied-de-Port, France (Saint John at the foot of the mountain pass).  We will walk together through Roncesvalles, Zubiri, and into Pamplona.  From there, we will part ways, and you will be ready to define your own personal Camino experience.  Should you need us along the way, we're only a phone call away.

About

My name is Patt, and I'm a modern-day Peregrina (lady pilgrim).

Peregrinity Defined

To me, a pilgrimage is about slowing life down for a period of time, simplifying needs to those that can be carried on your back, being open to connecting with others along the way, and being 100% responsible for yourself mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

For those who hear the call of peregrination, I believe that your pilgrimage begins at that specific moment and continues to embrace and nurture you throughout the rest of your life. Free from the distractions of day-to-day life, pilgrimage can provide an opportunity for reflection, redirection and the revitalization of your spirit. I have found that the power of pilgrimage can at times be very subtle, yet it has stayed with me long after my physical journey ended.

My pilgrimage experiences have affected me in more ways than I thought possible, and given me a different view of the world and my place in it. My passion for pilgrimage has led me to create Peregrinity, because I wholeheartedly believe that the world needs more pilgrims. The mission of Peregrinity, which literally means, "the quality or state of being a pilgrim", is to help others realize their own pilgrimage aspirations and rediscover their “hidden selves”.
